a liberal arts education is…

A liberal arts education can sometimes mean running on empty. Students attending a liberal arts college are required to put forth their best effort into their schoolwork, and this can sometimes cause lack of sleep, resulting in fatigue and loss of energy; however, if students stay aware of their health and nutritional needs, this problem can be avoided and they can run on a full tank instead of an empty one.

A liberal arts education is a time when every young adult must find himself or herself. Going away to college means gaining independence in ways that enhance one’s individuality. By living away from home and apart from the influences of family members, students are given the chances and freedoms to make their own decisions regarding appearances and the way they want to be perceived by others.

A liberal arts education gives students the opportunity to develop their own thought processes. Students are put into a diverse environment in which they are exposed to various viewpoints on world issues such as politics, education, and religion. Students are sometimes tempted to succumb to peer pressure in social situations, but with their own viewpoints on ethical and moral issues, they can make better decisions regarding their own personal value systems.

A liberal arts education can be defined as a “crossroads” – a time of change in people’s lives in which they are forced to make decisions for themselves about where they want to go with their lives and which careers are right for them. Usually during sophomore year of college, each student is required to declare his or her intended major and think about how this particular field of study will help lead him or her on the road to achievement of particular goals.
